Westminster & Lambeth Garden Route
Westminster is a beautiful and interesting place. The streets are clogged with busses and taxis but our Westminster Garden Route lets you walk through beautiful gardens, parks and urban landscapes which used to belong to palaces, foundations and centres of power. Westminster has been England’s seat of government since 1066 and was once the heart of her ‘Empire of the Seas’. The walk therefore has a historical theme – but the history is that of gardens, with but a few passing comments on the kings, queens, generals and politicians whose statues litter Westminster.
The Westminster & Lambeth Garden Route lets you see: a beautiful Abstract Modern garden, one of the most charming Cloister Gardens in Europe, a corner of a medieval castle garden, a re-created Knot Garden, the world’s first Garden Museum, the grandest section of the Thames Riverside Path, the most atmospheric Victorian Garden in London, what is arguably the finest urban park in Europe, a great London Square which was once home to seven dukes and an even greater Square by the architect of the Houses of Parliament. The route passes the palace gardens of the head of the Church of England (not open to the public) and the Queen of England (visitable in August and September as part of a timed-ticked visit to the palace).
